Son of Chicago Bears Hall of Famer Gets Scholarship Offer From Iowa
Any time a possible college football recruit gets a scholarship offer from the University of Iowa, it gets at least a little attention. Interest is ramped up when that high-schooler is the son of a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, who played his entire pro career just a few hours from Iowa City.
If you're a Chicago Bears fan or a fan of any team in the NFC's North Division, you undoubtedly recognized #54 in the photo above as Brian Urlacher. He spent 13 seasons as a linebacker with the Bears, ending in 2012. An eight-time selection to the Pro Bowl, Brian was first-team All-Pro five times and was also named to the league's All-Decade Team for the 2000s. In 2018, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Brian Urlacher went to the University of New Mexico before becoming a first-round NFL pick by the Bears. Brian's son Kennedy also has dreams of the NFL and he's starting to get noticed. Just a sophomore, college football recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said this about him last month:
"Physical, sure tackler and explosive at FS (free safety, a position in the defensive backfield). Student of the game with good range and instincts. 4.2 GPA. I love his attitude and work ethic."
Lemming isn't alone. Last night, Kennedy announced via Twitter,
"After a great conversation with LeVar Woods (Special Teams Coordinator for the Hawkeyes) I am honored to announce I have received an offer from Hawkeye Football!!"
Obviously, Kennedy is a big fan of a former great Hawkeye defensive back... Bob Sanders (#33 below).
The Iowa Hawkeyes weren't "first in" on Kennedy. His dad's college choice, New Mexico, offered him a scholarship in early September of 2020, just as his freshman season was beginning. Arizona extended an offer to Kennedy in March of 2021, and Northern Arizona in June of last year. 247 Sports lists Kennedy Urlacher at 6'1" and 180 pounds. He plays at Chandler High School in Chandler, Arizona.
