Four Iowa Breweries/Cideries Just Won National Awards
The weekend of October 10th through 12th of 2024, a huge annual event called the Great American Beer Festival took place in Denver, Colorado. Thanks to an article from the Iowa City Press-Citizen, we now know that there were FOUR Iowa breweries that took home awards at the 2024 festival! The article says that around 2,000 breweries and cideries across the country took part in the event this year, but only "326 beverages received medals out of the 9,000 commercial entries."
According to the Great American Beer Festival website, here are the four Iowa winners in 2024:
- SingleSpeed Brewing
- Waterloo, Iowa
- Taprooms in Cedar Falls, Des Moines, and Waterloo
- Won Silver in the Experimental India Pale Ale category for Lavender Haze
- PIVO Brewery
- Calmar, Iowa
- Won Silver in the Historical Beer category for Decorah Nordic Gruit
- Big Grove Brewery & Taproom
- Iowa City, Iowa
- Taprooms in Solon, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Des Moines
- Won Gold in the Juicy or Hazy Pale Ale category for Easy Eddy
- Paha Cider Co.
- Waverly, Iowa
- Won Silver in the Tannic Cider category for Cedar Valley Blend
Some of the other Iowa breweries that attended the Great American Beer Festival include Confluence Brewing Company in Des Moines, The Busted Cup Brewhouse in Burlington, and Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. in Decorah.
The Great American Beer Festival describes itself as "America’s premier beer festival, professional competition, and cultural phenomenon." It takes place annually at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. You can read more about the event HERE.
