Historic Iowa Hardware Store Closing After 140 Years
The small-town hardware store has nearly faded away. A few stores remain scattered among big box stores and big regional chains. An Iowa store open for 140 years will soon be added to that list of closed stores.
Iowa True Value Store Will Soon Close for Good
KCCI reports that McCoy True Value in Indianola, Iowa, is in its final weeks of operations. The store will soon close after 140 years in business. Employees and long-time customers are saddened by the news, as is store co-owner Jennifer Pfeifre-Malaney. She told KCCI that declining business was one reason that she made the difficult decision to close the store.
When Did The Indianola Store First Open?
The store began as a hardware and harness shop when it first opened in 1885, according to KCCI. Pfeifre-Malaney stated that her family has owned the store since the 1970s. The closure will result in the loss of four full-time jobs and four part-time jobs.
When Will The Store Close?
KCCI reports that McCoy True Value will be open through January 31st. All items in the store are on sale.
The closure will leave 34 True Value locations in Iowa. Eastern Iowa stores include Bettendorf, Cascade, Cedar Rapids, Independence, Maquoketa, and Waterloo.
