This weekend's event at Hawkeye Downs will no longer be happening thanks to that August 10th derecho that blew through Eastern Iowa.

We found out this week that the Gun Show that was scheduled for September 11th through 13th has officially been canceled. The Facebook post from Hawkeye Downs reads:

"We were disappointed to hear today that after a second adjuster has been out to take a look at damage from the derecho, our North Expo Hall has been deemed structurally unsound due to roof damage."

The good news is that the folks in charge of Hawkeye Downs are planning to get the repairs done as soon as possible. A new article from KCRG says:

"Hawkeye Downs says it’s working with its landlord to get repairs done quickly while adapting the spaces for other events. Officials are still planning for their final race of the season on September 26 called 'Audios 2020' and are looking forward to their winter dog park and holiday events."

Hawkeye Downs notes that the Gun Show set for October 9th through 11th will still be happening, as well.

The Audios 2020 Fall Bash, sponsored by Cancun Mexican Restaurant, will take place Saturday, September 26th beginning at 11 a.m. The opening ceremonies will start at 12:50 p.m., with the race following at 1 p.m. The very next day, September 27th, is the 200-Lap Enduro. Gates will open at 11 a.m. and the race will begin at noon. The theme is 80s.

I'm most looking forward to the winter indoor dog park beginning in October! You can read more on that Hawkeye Downs event HERE.
