Girls Rescued After Falling Through Ice In Cedar Falls
KWWL TV reports that it was a scary situation for two teenage girls on Sunday evening after they fell through the ice on Big Woods Lake. That brought the number of people who fell through ice to six in Black Hawk County alone.
The two girls fell through the ice at around 6:20 p.m. Cedar Falls Public Safety officers were able to get to the girls and have them to safety by around 6:40 p.m. They were about yards off the bank. Both girls were still in the water when crews arrived, and unable to get out themselves.
Public Safety Officers used ice rescue equipment to rescue the girls. Both were taken to a local hospital and were being treated for non-life threatening injuries. This was the second time that crews had been called to Big Woods Lake. Three people fell through the ice earlier but were able to get out on their own. Another person later fell through the ice but refused medical attention.
Officials are urging residents to stay off the ice.
