St. Luke’s Marion ER: Iowa’s First Freestanding Facility To Achieve Level IV Status
The city of Marion has been fortunate to see two new ER facilities open within the past year. As a Marion resident, I appreciate having critical care so close and not having to drive all the way to downtown Cedar Rapids if my family has an emergency. Now, one of those ER facilities is the first in the state to receive the highest of grades.
The new St. Luke's Marion ER, located at 3301 Armar Drive, has been designated as a level IV Trauma Center by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services Bureau of Medical and Trauma Services, according to the Corridor Business Journal. A level IV trauma center can provide advanced trauma life support before transferring a patient to a higher-level trauma center according to the Corridor Business Journal. This is the first trauma certification for a free-standing ER in the state of Iowa.
The St. Luke's Marion ER opened to the public in August of 2024. The Corridor Business Journal reports that it features over 10,000 square feet and is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
