Thanksgiving is a great time to get together with friends and family and share the things we are all thankful for. But some people don't get the chance to be together with the ones they love.

We have compiled a list of a few area restaurants and organizations serving free meals to those who want them in the Corridor.

Serving the Cedar Rapids metro area, The Salvation Army offers free Thanksgiving meals to those in need. All are welcome to stop by between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 27. The Salvation Army is located at 1000 C Ave. NW. Call (319)364-9131 if you'd like more information.

All are welcome to join the free Thanksgiving meal at the Waterloo/Cedar Falls Salvation Army at 83 Franklin St. in Waterloo. Call (319) 235-9358 if you need more information. The meal is available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This amazing area resource helps people in the community every day, not just at Thanksgiving. You can visit them at their regular hours, M-F 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m.

Thanksgiving week, they will have some special hours, opening at noon Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, November 25-27. They will CLOSE on Thanksgiving Day and resume regular hours on November 29.

Located at 1605 Lafayette St. in Waterloo, they are open Monday-Wednesday 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.; closed on Thanksgiving but available on normal Thursdays from 10:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. as well as 5:15-6:15 p.m. and Fridays from 8:15-11:15 a.m.

It started as a prank with an ad on Craigslist in 2017. Free turkeys on Thanksgiving! He got more responses than he ever imagined and he and his friends turned it into a charity drive to collect turkeys and funds for those in need at Thanksgiving. They gathered over $1500 and continue to help to this day. If you'd like to find out how to donate or receive a turkey or other resources this Thanksgiving, visit the Operation Give Birds website. They intend to give out 500 free meals this year.

Stadium  Bar & Grill, 957 Rockford Road SW in Cedar Rapids,  is offering a free Thanksgiving meal, with food donated and prepared by their regular customers, and a place to hang out, starting at 11 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, November 28. Everyone is welcome, whether you're a regular or not. You're also welcome to spend the afternoon there even after the food is gone.

CRL is located 301 F Ave. NW, Cedar Rapids. They will be open on Thanksgiving Day from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m., with a free buffet being served at 4 p.m. until the food is gone.  Live music at 5 p.m.

Foxy's Chill & Grill

Open at noon on Thanksgiving, with an open mic night beginning at 5 p.m. Thanksgiving dinner served from 4 p.m. until the food is gone. Free will donation.

All are welcome to stop by Jimmy Z's, 112 2nd St. SE in downtown Cedar Rapids, from 12 noon-3 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, November 28. Jimmy Z's will offer a great free meal and great company to those who need it.
