It's been a treacherous few days on Iowa roads and we've learned that four people have been killed in separate crashes, in the last 24 hours.

The first fatal accident happened early Sunday afternoon in Des Moines. According to We Are Iowa, 32-year-old Grant Stokka of Des Moines died following a crash in a parking lot in the 2600 block of Ingersoll Avenue. Stokka's 8-year-old son suffered minor injuries in the accident. Witnesses say the vehicle was traveling west on Grand Avenue at an excessive speed before going over a concrete wall and ultimately crashing into the parking lot below.

The other three fatal accidents all happened on Interstate 80. Sunday night at approximately 10:30, 9-year-old Joshua Tavares of Grand Island, Nebraska was killed when the vehicle he was riding in slid off the interstate near Walnut, Iowa. The vehicle came to rest on its passenger side in the ditch. According to the accident report from the Iowa State Patrol, the driver, 40-year-old Jesus Cantero Perez of Grand Island, was one of five other people in the vehicle that were transported to the hospital after the one-vehicle crash.

Monday just before 1 a.m., 31-year-old Joshua Peterson of Johnston, Iowa crashed his vehicle into a pole on I-80 west of the exit to Merle Hay Road in Des Moines. The accident report shows the vehicle he was driving was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the pole. Peterson was ejected from the vehicle.

Monday around 7:45 a.m., KJAN says one person was killed when a car was rear-ended by a semi on I-80. The accident happened on the eastbound lanes of the interstate between Walnut and Avoca. A female passenger in the backseat of the vehicle was the person killed. Her name has not been released.
