Summer is on the way! If you're trying to drop a few pounds before putting on a bathing suit, here are some tips to help you get started.

Losing weight is tough work. I'm in the process of doing it myself, and let me tell you, it is NOT fun. But the best thing you can do is stay away from those "trend diets," a instead develop healthier habits that will last you a lifetime, compared to just a few months. Here are five simple tips that you can use to help you get started on a healthier journey:

  • 1

    Drink Water

You've probably heard this a million times, but that's because it's true! Cut out sugary juice, pop, or that daily Frappuccino and replace it with a glass of water. It can help you ditch liquid calories, and at the same time water has a ton of health benefits. Plus, drinking water before you eat a meal can help you lose weight!

  • 2

    Use Your Grill

Grilling is one of the easiest forms of cooking, and it automatically gives food more flavor than just using the stove. Throw some fish or chicken or veggies on there and you have an easy dinner!

  • 3

    Close the Kitchen After Dinner

When you have a lot of time between dinner and bedtime, it's easy to sit in front of the couch and grab a snack. DON'T DO IT. Try brushing your teeth after dinner to prevent yourself from going back for more food.

  • 4

    Go Outside

Speaking of sitting on the couch, try to do less of that. The weather is getting nicer, so get involved in more outdoor activities. You could walk the dog, play outside with your kids, do some yard work... whatever! If you must watch something on TV, you could watch it while you do some basic exercises, or even head to the gym and watch it while you're on the treadmill!

    Plan Your Meals

If you plan out what you're going to eat for the week beforehand, you're less likely to grab something quick (and unhealthy) just to fill your stomach. Plan your meals before you head to the grocery store so you're fully prepared. Meal prep can be super helpful!
