Last August, it was announced that Chophouse Downtown at 411 1st Street SE in Cedar Rapids had permanently closed its doors. Well, we're happy to report that another restaurant has taken its place, and its set to begin welcoming customers in the very near future!

Just yesterday (January 27th), a social media post revealed the grand opening for the Fireside Tavern, a brand new restaurant that provides "a modern twist on family-style Italian cuisine that’s designed to be shared." According to the post, the menu will specialize in handmade ravioli, as well as a variety of steaks, including "NY Strip, Bone-In Ribeye, Sirloin, Filet Mignon, T-Bone, Porterhouse, and Skirt Steak."

The Fireside Tavern will hold its official grand opening on Thursday, February 6th. The Facebook post says to follow the page for "updates and sneak peeks – we’ve got some surprises in store!" You can check it out HERE.

There have been several restaurant openings in the Downtown Cedar Rapids area in recent months. Citywalk Eatery, located in the former Barrel House at 102 2nd St SE, began welcoming customers back in December. It's also one of the 19 restaurants that is participating in Cedar Rapids Restaurant Week in February.

There's also Peppercorn at the Bank, which opened in the historic Peoples Savings Bank building in November, Aroma Artisan Pizza, who opened their second Cedar Rapids location in November, and the District CR, another Cedar Rapids Restaurant Week participant that opened last July. You can check out a bunch of Eastern Iowa restaurants that opened in 2024 below:
