I love the NFL. The rest of the country does too. It has become the most popular league and it's prime time games top the TV ratings. If you've watched some games this year you've no doubt seen commercials for sites like Fanduel and Draft Kings. They are daily fantasy football sites that promise the games that could make you rich. It looks easy, doesn't it? I'll admit, I've considered signing up and trying it out. Just one problem. I live in Iowa, and it's illegal.

Yes, Iowa is one of only a handful of states that outlaw fantasy sports for cash. So yes, that league you're in with your buddies that hands out a cash prize at the end of the year? Illegal. Sites like Fanduel and Draft Kings, that proclaim fantasy sports as a game of skill and not of chance? Also illegal. Now the fact that they claim there is no luck involved in these games is a joke. Ask anyone who has played fantasy football. You have factors you can't control like the weather, injuries and coaching decisions just to name a few. No doubt your league has been won at least once by someone who doesn't know a thing about football, but got lucky and drafted the right players in that year.

But here's my real problem with this law. We have an Iowa Lottery that we're allowed to blow money on. We have 19 casinos in our state that we can spend our hard earned money on. But yet you're going to save me from the evils of online fantasy sports? Please, save me the speech. The Iowa Legislature actually tried to legalize fantasy sports earlier this year, but the bill died out. Thanks a lot Iowa. I'm sure I was going to be the next 'Fantasy Millionaire'.
