September is nearly over, and it's been one for the record books! This past month will go down as one of the warmest Septembers in history. But what does a warm September mean? Does it mean we're in for a cold winter? Or will the warmth continue?

As it turns out, it's a bit of a mixed bag. A warm September is no guarantee either way what the winter will be like. Statistics show that after a warmer than normal September, the majority of winters were warmer than normal. But there are always outliers. The ninth warmest September proceeded the second coldest winter in Iowa history!

The bottom line? While there are no guarantees in weather, chances are we're in for a warmer than normal winter. Now the snowfall totals? That's another story.
