Out of all 50 state capitals, the capital of Iowa was ranked the 11th best in the US!

Wallethub recently compared all 50 state capitals to find out which ones are the very best (and the very worst) to live in. Not surprisingly, Des Moines ranked pretty high on the list! The cities were each ranked on their education and health standards, affordability, economic well-being, and their overall quality of life.

To get more specific, Des Moines came in 11th place overall, ranking 8th in affordability, 19th in economic well-being, 14th in education and health, and 27th in quality of life.

The top five state capitals to live in the US are:

  1. Austin, Texas
  2. Lincoln, Nebraska
  3. Bismark, North Dakota
  4. Madison, Wisconsin
  5. Raleigh, North Carolina

On the OTHER side of the list, here are the five WORST state capitals to live in:

  1. Hartford, Connecticut
  2. Carson City, Nevada
  3. Montgomery, Alabama
  4. Jackson, Mississippi
  5. Providence, Rhode Island
