CR Man Who Robbed 7 Stores In 12 Days Could See Life in Prison

A Cedar Rapids man was found guilty this week by a federal jury for armed robbery or attempting to rob 7 businesses during a 12-day crime spree back in 2020.

The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that 28-year-old Cardel Demetrius Redmond was found guilty of six counts of interference with commerce by robbery and using and possessing a firearm during those robberies, and one count each of attempt to interfere with commerce by robbery and possession of a firearm by a felon. The Gazette reports that evidence presented at trial outlined Redmond's 12-day run.

• Redmond robbed a Subway restaurant on November 17, 2020, and displayed a gun during the robbery.
• On November 19th he robbed a cashier at gunpoint at the Hy-Vee Wine and Spirits on Oakland Road NE.
• Redmond then robbed a Perkins at gunpoint on November 25th.
• Two days later he robbed an employee at gunpoint at the Mt. Vernon Road Hy-Vee.
• Minutes later, he robbed two people at gunpoint at the Little Caesar's Pizza on Mt. Vernon Road.
• On November 28th, Redmond robbed two people at the Hy-Vee Drugstore on Sixth Street SW.
• On November 29th, he went back and robbed the same Subway he hit on November 17th. He was arrested later that night.

The Gazette reports that Redmond remains in the custody of the U.S. Marshall Service until his sentencing. He faces a minimum of 42 years in a federal prison with the possibility of life in prison. The jury deliberated for six hours following a four-day trial in U.S. District Court.
