Courtlin’s Restaurant Bucket List — June [PHOTOS]
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day!
It seems like it's been forever since I've tried a new restaurant, but I finally got one in for the month of June! My mom was in town for the weekend, so yesterday morning after yoga we decided to try out a place that's been on my radar for awhile now: gumption.
gumption. opened up in Cedar Rapids earlier this year, and it's located over by Butcher Block on Boyson Road. As soon as I saw they had breakfast mac & cheese, I knew I would have to try it out. If you're wondering what's in breakfast mac & cheese, it's eggs, sausage, peppers, onions, macaroni, cheese, and cornbread breadcrumbs:
My friend ordered the BLT off the lunch portion of the menu, and it was honestly one my favorite BLTs I've ever tried. It was served on rosemary bread with garlic aioli, and the bacon was really great quality:
My mom wanted something simple, so she ordered the Twisted Toad, which is just eggs, white bread, and a tangy sauce. She also said that the coffee was really, really good:
I like gumption. because it's not your ordinary restaurant. They really tried to do something different with the menu, so if you're looking for just a standard breakfast, this place probably isn't up your alley. I also like that they use ingredients from local farmers and bakeries, the service was wonderful, and the decor is just adorable. It's a place that I definitely wouldn't mind trying again.
I also got to try a couple of food trucks in CR this weekend at the Downtown Farmer's Market that were pretty delicious: The Grateful Crepe and Rio Burritos! Check out some of these goodies:
I'm looking for restaurant suggestions for the month of July, so feel free to leave one in the comments below!
