Could Presidential Infrastructure Bill Include Money For Cedar Rapids?
President Trump unveiled his $200 billion infrastructure plan yesterday in Washington D.C. Iowa leaders, including Cedar Rapids mayor Brad Hart, were on hand to see if some of that money might go to cities like Cedar Rapids for things like flood protection.
The Trump bill does include $50 million in funding for rural states. Mayor Hart and City Manager Jeff Pomerantz were at the announcement yesterday to remind the President of Cedar Rapids' need for flood protection. The two said they remain cautiously optimistic, and that the plan needs to become law before any talk of funding can go any further.
Mayor Hart says that proposed funding would favor projects that feature state, local, and private funding. The Cedar Rapids protection plan fits that bill.
Cedar Rapids has already been approved for $70 million for flood protection after 2008, but Congress has yet to pass the funding for it.
