As if there isn't enough confusion on the information out there regarding coronavirus, KCRG is reporting that there is a new phone scam involving the virus and it is targeting Iowa's senior population. Law enforcement officials are reporting a coronavirus related phone scam in several parts of Iowa.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department reports that this particular scam involves a caller telling an elderly person that their dose of coronavirus vaccine is ready and to send payment immediately. According to a post on the department's Facebook page, other nearby counties were also reporting the same phone scam.

The problem with this call? There is NO vaccine yet for coronavirus. Doctors are working on one, but it could be next year before it is approved for use by the public. If you receive a phone call from a person trying to profit from the ongoing pandemic, hang up and report the call to local authorities.
