Collins Aerospace has reportedly cut jobs here in Cedar Rapids. A company spokesperson confirmed the news on Thursday.

The Corridor Business Journal reports that the statement did not specify how many workers were impacted or a reason for the layoffs. A company statement read in part, "To ensure we are best positioned to address our customers’ greatest needs now and into the future, we are taking actions to reduce costs and optimize our organizational structure globally."

The statement did not give a reason for the recent layoffs, when they took effect, or which departments within the company were affected, according to the Corridor Business Journal. The layoffs have also not yet been listed on the WARN, Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act website. The CBJ reports that it requires that employers with 100 or more employees to give 60 calendar day written notice when there is a plant closing or mass layoff.

The CBJ reports that Collins Aerospace has nearly 9,000 employees in Iowa, mostly in Cedar Rapids where two of the company's divisions, Mission Systems and Avionics, are based. The company has laid off around 248 employees since 2020. The most recent round came in October of 2023 when 68 positions were cut in Cedar Rapids, according to the CBJ.
