Chris Stapleton does Willie Nelson proud with his take on "Last Thing I Needed, First Thing This Morning," one of the songs set to be included on his new 2017 album From A Room: Volume 1.

The opening melody almost sounds like an old Western song as Stapleton brings the pain and sorrow of the track alive with his rugged voice. His wife Morgane contributes to the song's melancholy nature with her gentle vocals as the two sing, "But then I laid down beside you / And I wanted your lovin' / Because your love makes my life complete / But the last thing I needed / The first thing this morning / Was to have you walk out on me."

The song was originally released by Nelson in 1982 as the third single off his multi-week chart-topping album Always on My Mind. The song followed in the footsteps of the album's success, claiming the No. 2 spot on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart.

Stapleton will release his new album in two parts. From A Room: Volume 1 will be available on May 5, while Volume 2 follows later in the year. The singer is wasting no time in giving fans a taste of the new music, sharing multiple songs ahead of the release date. He debuted “Second One to Know" at the 2017 ACM Awards and released the album's first single, "Either Way," in April. Morgane also joins him on a beautiful track called "Broken Halos."

The two-part project follows the incredible success of his 2015 debut studio album, Traveller, which earned universal praise from critics and several CMA, ACM and Grammy Awards, in addition to reaching the No. 1 spot on the all-genre Billboard Top 200 chart.
