Cedar Rapids NASCAR Driver Landon Cassill Has a New Ride
Cedar Rapids native, Landon Cassill, will be returning to the NASCAR oval this weekend at the Martinsville Speedway.
Cassill will be replacing Jeffrey Earnhardt at StarCom racing. ESPN first reported the two had mutually agreed to part ways. Earnhardt is the grandson of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt.
Landon will be driving the double-zero Chevy Camaro at both Martinsville this weekend and Texas the weekend after Easter. The sponsor for the car will be a non-profit known as the United States First Responders Association (USFRA). Here's what the car will look like:
Cassill has started 230 different Monster Energy Cup Series races in his career and is very excited about the new opportunity. He told ESPN,
I love working with new teams. I feel like that is one of my strengths. StarCom Racing looks like they are in it for the long haul, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.
Landon will be behind the wheel for Sunday's STP 500 and the O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 Sunday, April 8. Both races are televised by FS1, beginning at 1 p.m. Iowa time.
