A Tuesday evening accident south of Highway 30 in Linn County resulted in serious accidents for a Cedar Rapids mom and her son.

According to a release from the Linn County Sheriff's Office, 45-year-old Heidi Burkle and her 13-year-old son Reid were riding bicycles on 76th Ave. Drive east of C St. S.W. Tuesday, August 6. At approximately 7:57 pm, they were struck by a pickup driven by 39-year-old Trevin Greene of Fairfax, who was traveling west on 76th Ave. Drive.

Heidi and Reid Burkle both suffered serious injuries in the accident. Heidi was taken to an area hospital by Lifeguard Air Ambulance and was then flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Area ambulance took Reid to University of Iowa Hospitals. Greene was not injured.

Deputies with the Linn County Sheriff's Department, Linn County Sheriff's Rescue, the Iowa State Patrol, Ely Fire Department, Area Ambulance, and Lifeguard Air Ambulance all responded to the scene Tuesday evening.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the accident.
