Cedar Rapids is Healthier than Des Moines
With Des Moines being the capital and biggest city in Iowa, they can be pretty hard to compete with. Whenever WalletHub comes out with a new study, it seems that Des Moines always beats us. Well, not this time!
According to WalletHub's "2018’s Healthiest & Unhealthiest Cities in America" list, Cedar Rapids slightly edged out Des Moines, coming in at number 77. Not too shabby! WalletHub used "40 key indicators of good health" to rank the 170 most populated cities in America, splitting them up into four major categories: health care, food, fitness, and green space. Cedar Rapids didn't do great in the food and green space categories, but we did come in 6th overall for health care and 49th for fitness!
Des Moines came in at number 80 on the list, ranking 21st for health care, 121st for food, and 84th for fitness and green space.
The top three healthiest major U.S. cities are San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland, while the three unhealthiest are Brownsville and Laredo, Texas and Augusta, Georgia.
