Cedar Rapids Police revealed the names of two local residents that have died in shootings over the last two weeks.

A 21-year-old man is dead after a Sunday morning shooting in Cedar Rapids, and the Cedar Rapids Police Department (CRPD) is investigating to determine exactly what happened.

According to an updated media release from the CRPD, Jayson L. Jones of Cedar Rapids was the victim of a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning, January 3, 2021. The Cedar Rapids Police Department says Jones was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids at approximately 2:15 a.m. Sunday morning. The media release states he "arrived by private vehicle... Shortly after officers arrived at the hospital, the victim was pronounced deceased."

Cedar Rapids Police now say their investigation has found that Jones was shot in a home in the 800 block of 11th Avenue S.E. They continue to investigate the circumstances of the shooting.

In a separate case, Cedar Rapids Police announced early Monday afternoon that a woman who was shot on Tuesday afternoon, December 22, 2020, has also passed away.

The CRPD says 18-year-old Marisa Doolin was shot in an apartment in the 2100 block of Westdale Drive Southwest, three days before Christmas. At the time of the incident, police said she had suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound. Police say Doolin was pronounced dead on Saturday, December 26, 2020, and are investigating her death as a murder.
