If you drive along I-380 through downtown Cedar Rapids on a regular basis, you get a view of the ongoing construction of the Cedar Crossing Casino project. Yes, Cedar Rapids is finally getting a casino, and work on the building is moving at a quick pace!

CBS2 reports that Linn County was finally granted a gambling license in February after being denied in 2014 and 2017. A two-year moratorium on new casinos went into effect in 2022. Success this time around was attributed to the new facility being much more than just a casino. Members of the state racing and gaming commission stated that Cedar Crossing, providing more than just gambling, was a key factor in its approval. CBS2 reports that the new facility will include restaurants, an art and culture center, a STEM lab, and a 1500-seat entertainment venue.

CBS2 reports that progress on the Cedar Crossing casino continues to move along quickly. New photos show parking lots are taking shape, and exterior paint has recently been added. Crews will no doubt be rushing to get exterior work done so they can focus inside once the weather turns colder.

The $275 million casino is scheduled to open on December 31st, 2026.
