Canaan Smith and his wife of five years, Christy, are about to be parents! On Friday (Sept. 27), the singer shared the good news via People, explaining that the moment he got the news was "the best and most meaningful moment of my life."

The couple have opted not to find out the sex of the baby until birth. "We love surprises, and we are waiting to find out [the sex] in the delivery room," Smith explains. However, they have already started dreaming up baby names, and the singer says he and his wife are enjoying coming up with a creative list of options.

"We both love unique names, so it's been a blast to do this together," he goes on to say, adding that they still haven't settled on a final decision. "I liked Ryker for a minute, but that one ultimately got nixed by us both."

The singer tells People that Christy finally shared the good news after an elaborate home improvement errand. "You know how some people are too nice to say no? That's my wife 100 percent. So, when a salesperson at Home Depot asked if she could set up an in-home consultation to test our water filter in exchange for a $20 gift card, Christy said 'yes,'" Smith recalls. "My plan was to rush through it and say 'Thanks, but no thanks.' But once I saw the water test results, I was fascinated. What should have been a quick 20 minutes turned into an hour-and-a-half science experiment, and I was loving every minute. Meanwhile, Christy's having to keep her big news all to herself."

Finally, the consultation ended. "As soon as we closed the door, Christy said, 'Remember when I told you I had a dream that I was pregnant?' I said, 'No, I don't remember that.' She said, 'Yeah, remember I told you?' And I followed with another, 'No, I don't.' And before I could even ask why, it hit me," he goes on to say.

In celebration of the couple's big news, Smith is sharing a brand-new song, "Life Ain't Fair," a tribute to his relationship with his wife, along with an accompanying music video that celebrates her pregnancy. Press play above to watch!
