Cedar Rapids police say a man armed with a shotgun has been taking into custody.

He had entered the Cedar Rapids City Public Works Department Streets Division building at 1201 6th St SW at 10:38 a.m. this morning.

According to KCRG TV 9, police say that city staff workers and citizens were evacuated from the building with no injuries or shots fired.

CRPD spokesperson Greg Buelow told CBS2 News that police made contact with individual on the second floor of the building and were able to resolve the situation without a standoff or any hostages being taken.

Officials have not identified the armed individual taken into custody but said they had transported the man to a local hospital  for evaluation.

The situation is now considered resolved and with no threat to the public safety, persons are free to enter the area and building.
