The topic of gun control is one that divides this country right down the middle. One-half feels that more laws lead to fewer gun deaths. The other half doesn't want infringement on their second amendment rights. I have to admit, I fall somewhere in the middle. In the end, I wouldn't mind stricter gun laws and I'm a gun owner myself. But one thing BOTH sides can embrace is securing and locking up the guns that are already out there. Before another life is taken.

13-year-old Ireshia Parks of Cedar Rapids was shot and killed Tuesday morning. A 13-year-old boy has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in her death. Cedar Rapids police have determined that the shooting wasn't due to an argument or altercations. It was likely due to a teenage boy showing off. The question now is, where did he get the gun? Why was it loaded? Did the boy have access to ammunition too? All questions the police are trying to figure out. None of the answers will bring Ireshia Parks back.

If you have guns in your possession, and if you have kids running around your house, get the guns locked up. I don't care whether you use trigger locks, or keep them all in a gun case. Just keep them out of the hands of kids. Police officials say that if you find a gun, don't touch it. Call 9-1-1 and wait for an officer to come get it so it doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

A gun isn't a computer or a cell phone. You can't just leave it sitting around. Someone will take it, or steal it and use it. Lock them up...and protect us all.
