How to Get a Bird Out of Your Daughter’s Bedroom!
If you have kids at home during the summer like I do, you know that occasionally you'll get a phone call from them while you're at work. Usually, with questions like, Can you bring home lunch? Why are we out of syrup? Can I go hang out with my friends? But yesterday I got a frantic call from my daughters about a problem in the house.
That problem was a bird. Specifically, a bird in the girl's bedroom. Our daughters share a large bedroom that is on the upper level of our home. Cayleigh woke up on Tuesday to the sounds of flapping wings and chirping. It seemed that a sparrow had worked its way down through the attic fan and somehow squeezed its way into the girl's bedroom. Cayleigh sprinted downstairs. She did remember to shut the door behind her, trapping the bird upstairs.
So, doing what dads do, I flew home from work and looked up how to get a bird out of your house. The plan is actually quite simple.
- Make sure the bird is confined to one room or area of the house. Remember, it's scared and wants to leave!
- Choose and exit for the bird. Cayleigh and I chose a large window on the south side of their bedroom and opened it wide.
- Close all other blinds and windows so the bird isn't confused about where to fly.
- Guide the bird out.
It sounds simple. And in our case, it worked! We had the bird back outside in a matter of only a few minutes.
Now we can go back to normal this summer. Until the next phone call.
