Eastern Iowa High School Tops Nation with Its Beloved Mascot
The best high school mascot in the United States is from Eastern Iowa!
Sports Illustrated had a nationwide contest this spring to find the best high school mascot in the nation. The format was a March Madness-like bracket that pitted mascots from across the country against each other. One mascot from an Eastern Iowa high school went on a winning streak and ended up taking the title! Congratulations to Stormin' Norman!
CBS2 reports that the Center Point Urbana Stormin' Norman Pointers won the Sports Illustrated best high school mascot contest for 2025! So, where did the name come from?
Where Did the Mascot Stormin' Norman Come From?
According to a post on the Center Point Urbana Schools Facebook page, the name represents the merger of the two school districts in 1989. It continues the strength of the cyclone and the loyalty of the pointer.
The logo was designed by high school art teacher Richard Butschi along with input from both schools' student councils. In 2005, Stormin' Norman was introduced!
Congratulations to Stormin' Norman and all of the Center Point Urbana Stormin' Pointers for being voted the top high school mascot in the U.S.!
