‘Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders’ Will Swing Into Theaters for One Night Only
Time is a flat circle. When Matthew McConaughey’s character spoke these words in True Detective’s first season, he probably didn’t have the Batman character in mind (although, maybe he did, there’s a lot about that show I didn’t quite understand). And yet, here we are, in the year 2016, and many people are legitimately as or even more excited for an animated Batman movie starring Adam West than they were for the blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. What was once camp is now mainstream, and vice versa.
And not only are we getting an Adam West throwback Batman movie, you will actually be able to see it in theaters for one night only. Those looking forward to Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders will be very excited to hear that Fathom Events (via Collider) is bringing the movie to theaters for a special one night engagement on October 10. You can catch the film at participating theaters alongside a special introduction and the never-before-seen Batman documentary, Those Dastardly Desperados.
This will be the second Fathom Events animated Batman event of 2016, but hopefully, the responses to Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders will be a little bit more upbeat than those to Batman: The Killing Joke. It’s also worth noting that this movie will be released under the DC Classic Animated Movie logo and not the DC Universe logo, which means we won’t need to have Noel Murray update his ranking of every DC Animated Original Movie. I’m sure he really appreciates that.
Here’s the official synopsis for Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders:
It’s back to the 1960s as Batman and Robin spring into action when Gotham City is threatened by a quartet of Batman’s most fiendish foes — Penguin, The Joker, Riddler and Catwoman. The four Super-Villains have combined their wicked talents to hatch a plot so nefarious that the Dynamic Duo will need to go to outer space (and back) to foil their arch enemies and restore order in Gotham City. It’s a truly fantastic adventure that will pit good against evil, good against good, evil against evil … and feature two words that exponentially raise the stakes for both sides: Replicator Ray. Holy Multiplication Tables!
Tickets for Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders are on sale now for October 10.
