A Cedar Rapids Restaurant is Expanding into Jones County
Get ready, Monticello!
On Saturday night (July 30th), a popular Cedar Rapids bar and restaurant made a big announcement on Facebook. The Blind Pig, located at 3325 Center Point Rd NE, is officially expanding into Jones County! The post reads:
"Yes, we have purchased a building in Monticello and it will be home to the 2nd Blind Pig! Construction begins Monday!"
The new Blind Pig will be located in the building that was last home to The Jitney, which closed its doors for good earlier this year. The Monticello restaurant first opened in 2012 at 126 E 1st Street, but closed in 2020 after the owners decided to sell it. It reopened under the same name in 2021, but ended up shutting down in May of 2022.
The Blind Pig describes itself on Facebook as "a prohibition-era fashioned bar with lots of tasty drinks and delicious food." It's also a popular spot for Friday night karaoke. The menu features a wide variety of burgers and sandwiches, including the famous jumbo tenderloin, plus soup, salads, and a ton of appetizers. My favorite things to order are the Pig Out Nachos, the Buffalo Wings, the Jacked Mac Burger, and the Pickle Chips. I spoke to Megan Evans, one of the owners, who told me:
"We're going to tighten up the menu a little and we've already started buying piggy stuff for decor!!! Also, [we] have a really cool idea to maximize seating!"
The Blind Pig hasn't announced an official opening date for their new Monticello restaurant, but they are tentatively planning for late this fall. You can follow along with their progress on their Facebook page HERE.
