Brock Purdy has accomplished a lot in his years as a starting quarterback in the NFL. The 49ers quarterback has led San Francisco to two NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance. Not bad for the former Iowa State Cyclone and the last pick in the draft. The 49ers knew they were getting a bargain at the quarterback position. Now, the time has come for Purdy to get his payday.

The Bleacher Report is reporting that the 49ers have made Purdy an offer on a contract extension. Sources say that the initial offer would pay Purdy an average yearly salary of $45 million. That would rank him 12th in average salary for a quarterback in the NFL. In comparison, the top 9 QBs all make more than $50 million a year in average salary. Some of those names include Dak Prescott, Jordan Love, Jared Goff, Joe Burrow, Lamar Jackson, and Jalen Hurts.

Purdy is just 25 years old and has an impressive resume in his short time in the NFL. Is he worth more than what the Niners are offering? Will Purdy want to be paid like the top tier quarterbacks in the league? I imagine that Purdy and his camp will counter with a higher number. But how high will San Francisco be willing to go?

The Bleacher Report points out that Purdy is due just $5 million for the upcoming season. They could then put the franchise tag on him for two more seasons. That would equal around $97 million paid out of the next three years, which would be below the deal offered, and below the current market value for a top tier starting quarterback in the NFL.

This is just the first move in what could be a turbulent off-season for Purdy and the Niners.
