Halloween is only 11 days away, and it's near panic time at our house.  We haven't gotten the goodies to hand out to the trick-or-treaters in our neighborhood yet.

Kids that knock on the James door don't get candy.  Nope, we're not a "candy" house.  Typically, we give away Halloween-themed microwave popcorn and seldom is there a child that isn't excited to get it.  The younger ones anyway.  Those that drive themselves around on the night of October 31st aren't so easily satisfied.  They shouldn't be trick-or-treating anyway, in my opinion, but that's a blog for another time.

This year, we haven't been able to find the mass packages of microwave popcorn, so we're leaning toward pretzel packs.  Whatever it ends up being, it won't add to dental bills for the parents.

Here's a few other suggestions on items you could hand out on Halloween, besides candy:

Stickers, glow stuff, coloring books, crayons, temporary tattoos, play-doh, maybe fresh fruit, or even water.  Hey, kids get thirsty running all over the neighborhood.  There's a million different ideas out there.

This Saturday at our Kidsfest event at the Helen G. Nassif YMCA Downtown, we're hoping to encourage kids to eat a little healthier with a healthy snack-making station.  It'll be open from 10 to 1 and is one of many things going on that Saturday to keep the kids active and entertained.
