Yesterday was hot! Hopefully you were able to take it easy and relax. Sunday night means racing for me and the Dubuque County Fair race. After racing the night before for a 6th place finish, just some prep work needed to be done to get the car ready for Sunday night.

One of the biggest jobs is prepping tires. You have to grind the tires to get get a new surface ready for the track. Dirt tires after racing them will glaze over and then it takes 5 to 10 laps to heat up and grip into the track so by grinding them they hook up quicker to the track. Well, we have a set for the qualifying heat race and also a set for the feature. 8 tires and about an hour or 2 of work in the heat, plus the little maintenance things to the car, we were set to go.

By 3:45 I'm about spent, but a quick shower and I'm almost back to new and ready to head down the road. Well, we head down the road and make it to Manchester on Hwy 20 when the left rear tire literaly blows out on the truck. I had just made the comment a few miles earlier about being thankful for AC in the truck. We pull over and start to change tires only to find out the spare doesn't fit correctly. Luckily I had the racing trailer with air compressor and demounting tools and I was able to dismount the tire from the spare onto the correct rim along side of Hwy 20. Got it done in under 20 minutes and we were back on the road. I'm now drenched again. Have I said it was HOT outside?

We get to the track just in time to hot lap and then get ready for the qualifying race. We started 3 row inside and the car feels good. Now hoping to get a good qualifying run and start towards the front for the feature. Well, those dreams got dashed when coming around to complete lap 1 out of the 4th turn the 3rd place car spins down in front of everyone. I spin to avoid and had minimum damage... until the car behind me about 6 car lengths can't get stopped and slams into me. This now takes out the radiator. So our night is done. Now we have to drive home with a torn up racecar, a truck without a spare tire... I almost was afraid to drive home wondering what might happen next.

We made it home safely.. new tires are going on the truck this week, and the racecar has a new radiator coming and a lot of body work to be done this week.

After going through everything on Sunday... I can say "I'm glad it's Monday!!!"
