This past winter it snowed and snowed and snowed in Boston. A total of 110-inches. But it wasn't until today... JULY 14TH!... that the last trace of winter finally melted.

A 75-foot mountain of snow, the largest of a dozen "built" around Boston this past winter to house the huge amounts of the white stuff removed from city streets, finally totally melted.

Winter is officially over in Massachusetts. Boston's mayor deemed it so.

Even the Governor rejoiced.

How is it possible that there was still snow in a pile after the 4th of July? Despite the fact it just kept snowing over the winter, the weather in Boston was dry this spring. The pile turned gray, black, disgusting, and wouldn't melt. The New York Times called it, "an ice-encased, cinder-encrusted mound of snow laced with urban flotsam and jetsam, from candy wrappers to fire hydrants.”

Though it's only mid-July, I expect Bostonians are already concerned about winter being just a few months away. That's one thing I have in common with them. Give me 95 degrees and dew points of 80 anytime over 20-below zero temperatures. Snow doesn't bother me... then again, I can guarantee 110-inches would.
