A safety study done by Wallet Hub finds that Iowa is the 12th safest place to live in the USA.

Wallet Hub looked at 20 different areas to evaluate each state. Crime, traffic accidents, climate disasters, unemployment rate and occupational injuries were all tallied together.

Iowa had 43 murders in 2013 was ranked the safest state in terms of number of murders per 100,000 residents. Financial wise (health insurance, foreclosures, & unemployment), Iowa ranked 7th and for road safety was ranked 8th.

Where Iowa lagged was workplace safety and natural disasters. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor, Iowa had 71 fatal work-related accidents in 2013 and 30 of the deaths were related to transportation accidents. That ranking put Iowa at 36th.

Natural disasters with Blizzards, Tornados, and weather us Iowan's are used to put Iowa at 37th overall. #1 for least natural disasters, you guessed it... Hawaii.
