Julie took the afternoon off and I'm awfully glad she did.  She called me to report that we had a message from the Fraud Protection Agency.  They were calling because they suspected some suspicious activity on one of our bank cards.  Their suspicions were right. I called back the phone number, complete with my case number.  After a short screening process I was connected to a fraud specialist who helped me confirm that someone in another state had apparently made a counterfeit card and had used it multiple times in a very short period of time.  She immediately disabled the card, so the crooks couldn't continue stealing money.  She also shared with me that making of counterfeit cards is "the thing" right now.  Nice.

I then made a second phone call to my local banking institution who I'd gladly identify here except for the fact I'm a bit uneasy today... as you might expect.  They were tremendous and told me exactly what I needed to do on my end to get the money returned.

To anyone who ever gets this type of call from a fraud agency.  Don't ignore it as every minute that you wait, someone may be taking advantage.  And to anyone who's already had this happen to them, I sympathize.  I'm grateful to the systems in place that so quickly caught the problem for me today.  I just hope this is the end of it...
