Today, November 25th, 2013, was nearly Matt Flynn day in the state of Wisconsin.  After a half of poor quarterback play from Scott Tolzien, Packer head coach Mike McCarthy put the recently acquired Flynn in the ball game.  And the rest was nearly history.

Flynn rallied the Pack from a 16 point 4th quarter deficit, and forced an overtime period.  Packer fans, including myself, were giddy at the second chance that we'd been given.  Heck, the Pack even won the toss!  But, the overtime rules in the NFL have changed in the past several years.  No more going down, kicking a FG and walking off with the win.  If your score a TD on your first trip down field, THEN you win.  But if you kick a FG, as Green Bay did, then the other team gets the ball.

So the Vikings drove right down field behind Adrian Petersen and the ground game.  A FG would mean, the overtime period continued, a TD for the win.  The Pack D held, and we were tied again.  You know what happened next.  No one else scored.  Time ran out.  A tie.

Does the NFL need to adopt the college rules of OT?  No.  But there needs to be a way to WIN the game.  When each week means so much in the race for playoff spots, shouldn't there be a way to win the game?  What if the half game costs the Packers a playoff spot?  Or another team a spot?

With both the Bears and Lions losing yesterday, the Pack missed a golden chance to tie for the division lead.  THAT tie I would take.
