There will soon be one less place to enjoy Italian food here in Eastern Iowa. According to a new article from the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Zio Johno's is closing one of their Cedar Rapids locations.

The news officially broke back on July 10th when the official Zio Johno's Facebook page for the location at 5741 C St SW in Cedar Rapids posted a status update. The update states that the restaurant will be shutting down at the end of July after seven years in business. The post reads:

"Being a small, family-run business has never been easy, especially in the past few months. The business owner, Abe, has health issues that he needs to tend to and with the financial strain of COVID-19, we feel it makes the most sense for us to close at this time.

Your constant support and encouragement made it possible for us to do what we love and serve our community. We hope that you will continue to support local, family-owned and operated businesses."

The update goes on to say that they will continue to offer both delivery and curbside pickup until the end of the month.

Unfortunately, local business closures have been fairly common during this pandemic. The goods news is that the other Zio Johno's locations here in Eastern Iowa will NOT be impacted by this closure. The remaining locations include:

  • 780 Community Drive in North Liberty
  • 342 HWY 1 West in Iowa City
  • 755 7th Ave in Marion
  • 3120 Edgewood Rd SW in Cedar Rapids
