We have a lot of little-known gems in the state of Iowa and this is definitely another one. Hansen's Dairy Farm. Hansen's farm near Hudson in Black Hawk County has been in the family for 155 years.

Hansen's Dairy makes Creamline milk, butter, and two of my favorite things in life, cheese curds, and ice cream. They offer six cheese curd flavors... mild white cheddar, red pepper, bacon, dill, ranch, and buffalo! Hansen's has over 20 flavors of hard ice cream and also sells soft-serve. I just ate lunch but, all of a sudden, I'm starving again. Ok, enough about the food because that's not what I intended to write about here... I just couldn't help myself.

The Hansen Dairy Farm offers tours and they sound absolutely awesome. The Hands-On tour looks like a wonderful family outing. It includes a guided tour of the farm showing you the process that gets milk from the cow to your table. You hop on a trolley to the farm, included in the price of admission, and then take a walking tour of the farm itself. You get to feed a calf, pet kangaroos and goats, milk a cow (sorry, no machine for you, you're using your hands), eat some ice cream and sample other products made by Hansen's and even make homemade butter. This sounds like a blast!

The Hands-On tour begins at 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and is 2-hours long. It's $12 for everyone four and over and free for kids 3 and under. It's limited to 30 people each day and you must call ahead for reservations.

Hansen's also offers school or daycare tours and an adult group tour. You can get more information on the tours HERE. If you go, have fun. I have no doubt you will, especially after seeing all the smiles in this video:
