Well, it was a nice time while we had it Eastern Iowa. We nearly made it to Valentine's Day 2025 without a major snowstorm. That streak will come to an end Wednesday as a major winter storm makes its way through the state.

This isn't going to be the blizzard to end all blizzards, but as our friends in the KCRG TV-9 Weather Lab point out it is going to be the first big snowstorm of the year for many of us here in Eastern Iowa. The National Weather Service has already put out watches and warnings and most of the listening area is affected.

So when will the snow start? KCRG reports that you can expect to see some light or moderate snow during the morning commute on Wednesday. It will be enough to make the roadways slick, but they won't be as bad as they will be later in the day. Still, if you have work or school on Wednesday, plan on a longer morning commute.

After a slight lull around midday, KCRG reports that the majority of the snow will fall during the afternoon and evening hours. This will be the heaviest snow of the storm and we could see snowfall rates of up to one inch per hour. Travel conditions will deteriorate quickly with the Wednesday evening commute being a rough one.

KCRG reports that most of Eastern Iowa will see somewhere between 4 and 8 inches of new snow with this storm system. Lighter amounts will be seen to the far north.

It's time to gas up the snowblower and dig out the snow shovel. It's going to look a lot like winter again!
