Willis Dady Homeless Services here in Cedar Rapids is in the final week of their Coat, Hat, and Gloves Drive to help out folks in our community!

According to their official Facebook page, Willis Dady's mission "is to provide shelter and prevention services to the homeless and near-homeless with the vision of empowering clients to break the cycle of homelessness and become self-sufficient." It adds that they provide "shelter, case management, homeless prevention, and veteran services to the homeless and near-homeless in Linn and surrounding counties in Iowa."

The organization is asking for new or gently used items like coats, hats, scarves, gloves, and hand/feet warmers to help prepare people experiencing homelessness for incoming winter weather. An article from CBS 2 says that "a coat rack has been placed in the annex of the Emergency Shelter so clients can choose the warm weather items that work for them."

The deadline for the winter clothing drive is this Friday, October 30th at 5 p.m. The Cedar Rapids drop-off locations listed on their Facebook page include:

  • Willis Dady Homeless Services - 1247 4th Ave SE
  • Theisen's - 1800 51st St NE
  • Theisen's - 3111 16th Ave SW
  • Lindale Mall (next to Java Jack!) 4444 1st Ave NE

We are entering the final week to donate to our Coat, Hat, and Gloves Drive! Drop off any gently used or new coats,...
