And just like that, Christmas is over. While many like to leave their tree and decorations up through New Years or longer, many, including myself, have begun to 'un-deck' the halls as we speak. If you enjoyed a real tree this holiday season, the Gazette reports that residents in Linn and Johnson counties have plenty of options when it comes to getting rid of the green.

In Cedar Rapids, residents can begin leaving their real, unflocked trees at the Sac and Fox trail parking lot, located at Betram Road and Wilder Drive SE, and the Prairie Park Fishery, located at 2125 Otis Road SE. Both sites are open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Please make sure and remove all ornaments and other decorations and netting. Trees dropped off here will be chipped and used by the Indian Creek Nature Center, and ice habitats for the Prairie Park Fishery.

Curbside collection of real trees begins on Monday. The trees should be cut in halves and thirds, no longer than 6 feet and no greater in diameter than 2 feet. Please set them 3 feet from your normal garbage pickup. Artificial trees are considered waste and cannot be recycled. As with flocked trees, they need to be broken down and left with a $1.50 trash sticker.

In Iowa City, residents can place their real trees curbside for pickup on their normal trash pickup day. Trees will not be picked up Thursday, but normal collection will begin again on January 4th. Residents in Johnson County, Kalona and Riverside can drop off their trees free of charge at at the Iowa City Landfill Compost Facility at 3900 Hebl Ave.

Marion residents can set out their real trees beginning today through January 8th. Make sure all decorations are removed and place the tree curbside on your normal pickup day. Also, Marion residents will get one free extra bag of garbage the week after Christmas.
