When you move into a house, normally the previous owners do a good job of cleaning out and getting rid of all their belongings. This goes for things like furniture and appliances, but it also goes for hidden items that when found are just darn right strange and embarrassing! I know when my parents remodeled the kitchen when I was a kid, they found several old mason jars that proved to be antiques! Yes, the house was that old.
