You can call it luck or you can call it a racing vortex... but somehow the West Liberty Raceway stayed dry and not a drop of rain hit the track all night long.

The dry weather was just what late model driver Justin Kay from Wheatland and modified driver Chris Abelson from Sioux City wanted as they both earned victories Tuesday night.

In the IMCA Deery Brother Summer Series feature, Kay started from the pole position but it was the outside front row starter Denny Eckrich from Tiffin jumping out to the early lead. Eckrich would lead until lap 17 when he would encounter lap traffic and Kay was able to find his way around Eckrich and would cruise to the 40 lap, $2000 win. Scott Fitzpatrick was able to get around Eckrich for 2nd and Eckrich settled for 3rd.

Justin Kay grabbed the early lead in IMCA Hawkeye Dirt Tour Modified race but engine problems on lap 12 sidelined his chances for the win. Chris Abelson, who before Tuesday night had never been to the West Liberty Raceway... let alone the city of West Liberty, took the lead and never looked back as he scored the 30 lap, $1,000 win. Jacob Murray was 2nd followed by Kelly Shryock 3rd. Local drivers Kurt Kile from Nichols and Chris Zogg from New Liberty were 4th & 5th.
