Two people lost their lives on Saturday morning after a head-on collision near Amana. Officials say that icy driving conditions were likely the cause of the accident. The driver of a pickup truck lost control near a bridge and hit an SUV head-on.

The driver of the pickup truck, 62-year-old Bradford J. Stiles of Iowa City, and the driver of the SUV, 35-year-old Lydia Louise Schirmer of Williamsburg, both died in the accident according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The accident happened at around 8:43 a.m. on Saturday. Stiles was driving a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck north on Highway 151 when the state patrol says he lost control on a frosty bridge over the Iowa River. The truck then veered across the center line and hit the Honda CRV being driven by Schirmer head-on. The state patrol says that both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

The crash remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol, Iowa County Sheriff's Department, and the Amana Fire Department.
