Walmart to Close in Cedar Rapids for One Day

When I moved to Cedar Rapids the first time 20-some years ago, I visited Walmart 5 times in one day as I kept forgetting this or that, and as I entered for the last time that night I asked the greeter what time they closed. he casually said 'Christmas', smiled and kept greeting. I said 'Wait, what? Christmas' He said 'Yes, sir it's the only day we close.' This was something new, our Walmart right outside Washington DC closed at mightnight and reopened at 6 am, that's 6 hours I can't shop. You know that's exactly the time that you'll need that scrub brush or 10-quart mixer with a stand or 4K TV, I don't know what you need. Though I would highly recommend the clearance aisle always a good buy there.

Walmart has just announced that not only will they be closed on Christmas Day, but they'll be closed on another day this year and it's a surprising one. In some of the years past Walmart has chosen to open on Thanksgiving Day, and that led to some, of what we'll call, misunderstandings like this one

It looks like Walmart is giving their employees a well-deserved day off on a Thursday. The Pilgrims would have wanted it that way. Maybe those looking for a deal will have to find Black Friday chaos somewhere else. Let's raise our glass to the workers at Walmart getting the day off and hope they have a great day. Just an FYI get your items before they close the night before, Thanksgiving can be a bear if you forget something and all the stores are closed. Happy Thanksgiving, Pilgrims.
