Think of the most frightening thing to happen to your home when you were a kid. maybe it was a scary thunderstorm or severe weather that sent you to the basement or a window-less hallway.

Those can be terrifying for sure. But...

File this one under SHOCKING. An apartment ceiling collapses... and it's caught on video. The collapse occurred on Saturday morning at the Douglas Park Apartments in Urbandale.

KCCI reports the collapse, which did not cause any injuries, could have been worse if not for a quick-thinking 6-year-old. She was sleeping when she saw that the roof was dripping and alerted her parents.

The apartment was occupied by the Clark family. While no one was hurt, as you'll see in the video, the apartment was badly flooded and the tenant's belongings were all destroyed.

The KCCI story says the Clark family has spent a good deal of time in their car since losing their apartment, and they're not sure if they'll be given a new unit in the same complex, or what they'll do next. It appears apartment management will pay for hotel costs.

According to the report, the Clark family felt the whole situation could have been avoided.

They claim they'd reached out to the apartment management or maintenance to alert them about water pressure issues they were having. They claim they were told it would be handled, but that it simply never was.

There has been a Go Fund Me page created to help the Clark family so they can purchase items to replace those destroyed by the collapse.

In addition to having a 6-year-old daughter, the couple also has a 10-month-old.

KCCI was unable to obtain a comment from the apartment management.
