If your family is looking for a fun, outdoor winter activity, look no further! Two ice rinks in Cedar Rapids are officially open to the public.

Yesterday, the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation Facebook page posted a new photo of an ice rink with the caption, "Let's skate! The ice rinks located at the Jones Park and Noelridge Park tennis courts are now open."

But, that's not the only winter activity you can enjoy this year! According to the Cedar Rapids Parks and Recreation website, the Ellis Park tennis court is open all winter for Pickleball, the sledding hill at Bowman Woods Park is open, and the Twin Pines Cross-Country Ski Trail is currently open (it opens when there's a 6-inch snow pack). Thanks to all the damage caused by the August 10th derecho, that is the ONLY ski trail that will be open this winter. The trails at Cherry Hill Park, Jones Park, Ellis Park Golf Course, and Sac & Fox Trail are closed this season.

Just a reminder, there are various COVID-19 protocols in place at local parks. The Parks & Recreation website says to maintain at least 6-feet of distance from other people and bring your trash with you when you leave the park. Also, all park restrooms are currently closed and the water is not turned on, so it's a good idea to bring hand sanitizer with you.

For the latest updates from the department, including openings and closings, you can call the Winter Sports Hotline at 319-286-5700 (option 6). For additional questions, feel free to call 319-286-5566 (option 3) during business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
