Des Moines Police have made two arrests in last Thursday's triple homicide in the city in which two 19-year-olds and a 15-year-old were shot to death.

20-year-old Daishawn Gills and 19-year-old Emmanuel Totaye, Jr. have been arrested and charged in the case. They each face three counts of First Degree Murder and one count of First Degree Robbery related to the shooting deaths of Devonte Swanks, 19, his brother Malachi Swanks, 16, and friend Thayne Wright, 15.

Authorities say a witness saw Gills in the area "just prior" to the murders late Thursday, January 30 in a duplex on East Hackley Avenue. He reportedly was carrying a long gun at the time.

According to WHO, Totaye, Jr. was arrested this morning. A search warrant at his residence turned up items belonging to the victims.

Daishawn Gills was already in police custody on an unrelated charge but was in possession of property that belonged to the deceased at the time of his arrest.

Gills had been arrested last Friday afternoon after a vehicle was hit by shots on Evergreen Avenue in Des Moines. A 24-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the vehicle, went to a Des Moines hospital with a gunshot wound to her leg. She told police that after the vehicle she was riding in was hit by gunfire, she witnessed two other vehicles involved in a chase.

KCCI says that police detectives tied Gills to that case. He faces two counts of intimidation with a dangerous weapon, willful injury causing bodily hard, and attempted murder in that case.
